5 Unique Activities For Friends (With a Physically Distanced Twist).

On the lookout for some physically distanced activities to do with friends that aren’t completely terrible?
From crafty park days to (genuinely) fun virtual activities, we’ve got you covered.

1) Paint and Sip at the Park

Whether you’re artistically skilled or not, painting is objectively fun, and even more so when there’s wine involved. And while countless art studios offer ‘Paint and Sip’ nights, doing this yourself with friends is completely free, and makes for a crackingly good physical distance adhering activity.

We recommend packing a blanket, your preferred wine, acrylics (although water colours can be fun too and make for a far less messy experience) and something to paint on before hitting your local park with your friend(s). Bad weather? Not to fear - depending on your city’s current restrictions, you may be able to have a small group of people over to yours, and setting up shop in the living room with your vino and painting equipment makes for an extremely cosy afternoon in.

2) Picnic it Up

If ever there was a perfect socially distanced activity, a good old fashioned picnic in the park (or your garden, or the beach, or anywhere else out in the open for that matter) would be it. Gather a friend (or group of friends, depending on your city’s current restrictions) and head out into the sunshine for some vitamin d, fresh air and healthy dose of socialisation.

Instead of the supermarket, consider supporting smaller businesses by giving your local independent stores a visit (not only will you help them during what is without a doubt an extremely difficult time, we also guarantee your gourmet food will be exponentially tastier than that from a supermarket).

3) Build Up a Sweat with an Outdoor Workout

While the beginning of COVID-19 may have seen you attempt a whole lot of at-home workouts in effort to maintain some type of fitness and not turn into a potato, the easing of restrictions that many cities are seeing means that while hitting the gym may not yet be possible, you can now transgress from living room yoga to actually meeting up with someone who isn’t a personal trainer for some outdoor exercise.

While hitting the park for some rays and pilates may now be possible (don’t forget to check your city’s current restrictions), be smart here people - always maintain a good 1.5 metres of distance from your pals (this is especially important when you’re all huffing and puffing from exercise), even when you finally reach that 100 squat milestone and want to exuberantly high five everyone.

4) Throw a Small Dinner Party

If too much free time on your hands as a result of lockdown has culminated in you becoming a bit of a whiz in the kitchen, you may want to show off your newly found culinary skills by hosting a small dinner party. Depending on how many visitors you’re allowed to have over, invite a small group of friends, set the dining table super fancy (you can’t go wrong with candles), play some cosy dinner party-esque tunes and wow your guests with your cooking skills (or if the pressure gets to you, just buy a rotisserie chicken, way more crusty baguettes than you think you will need and some red wine).

If you can’t yet have people over, don’t fret - just grab some takeaway food and sit in a park to devour your feast instead.

5) Connect Virtually

If the thought of actually physically hanging out with people is enough to send you into a stress induced meltdown, you can still maintain social connections with others virtually. Months of lockdown and restrictions have led to a whole heap of virtual activities popping up that exponentially surpass the standard video call, making for well and truly socially distanced activities (can’t get further away than through a screen) that are actually fun.
