This experience combines our popular Mystery Picnic Date with an unforgettable wine tasting in complete darkness.
Your digital guide will lead you through McLaren Vale, showcasing the best local produce, wineries, and scenic spots along the way. Meet locals, enjoy regional specialties, and collect picnic treats by solving a series of fun clues and riddles. Each stop brings you closer to your next delicious discovery and your final picnic destination.
During your adventure, you’ll visit a fortified cellar for a unique “tasting in the dark” session. With blindfolds and black wine glasses, you’ll explore how removing sight heightens your other senses and transforms the way you experience wine. It’s an engaging and accessible tasting designed for everyone, no expertise required.

We recommend that you arrive at your first location before 10:00am to ensure you finish your Mystery Picnic and arrive in time for your 2:00pm tasting session.

Food and dietaries
We won’t give away too much here, it is part of the mystery after all! But you can safely expect gourmet foods from local artisan producers, including your traditional picnic foods (such as cheese, meats, fruits and crackers etc.). And naturally, as artisan producers will be unique to the different destinations, the final picnic content varies slightly between them.
Absolutely! We can cater for most dietary needs for no additional charge, including gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian diets. Customers can also outline any allergies we should be aware of at the time of booking. We recommend pescatarians book as vegetarians.
Inclusions
Pricing is based on two adults.
You will need a car to explore and complete your day trip. Please ensure that you notify the winery who is driving so they can limit tasting sizes.
All food and wine will be covered in the cost of your experience, including picnic supplied for your perfect picnic spot.
On the day
Tasting in the Dark accommodates all levels, requiring no prior expertise. It's a journey of wine enlightenment, where you'll uncover tricks and techniques to enhance your wine-tasting prowess and deepen your appreciation of flavor profiles.

Your digital experience instructions for your picnic will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to your selected date. Post-purchase, your confirmation email will detail all the necessary information about timing and what to pack.
No local knowledge is required to solve the clues on the day. Whether you know the region well, or it's your first visit, the experience is designed to guide you to discover new things during your visit!
We will always have a picnic spot planned for you; be that a picnic area, a park or even a winery. Please note that picnic set up is not included so you are welcome to find a spot and settle in to eat. We also recommend bringing along a picnic blanket if you have one, in case you decide to settle on the grass.
